Leagoo S8 Specs and Prices

Leagoo is one of the many Chinese OEMs that has a kind of cheap alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S8 flagship. The smartphone features the same 18:9 aspect ratio and a bezel-less display approach. The mid-range smartphone comes with a nice metallic unibody. Most importantly it is very much cheaper although it is not comparable in terms of performance. However, is the design and features offered by this smartphone worth its price? Let’s find out.

Leagoo S8 Key Specs and Features 5.7-inch, IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen touchscreen, 1440 X 720 pixels (282 ppi) Octa-core MediaTek MT6750T CPU with 3GB RAM 32GB built-in storage,  up to 128GB with memory card Dual 13MP + 2MP rear camera and 13MP + 2MP front camera 4G LTE Fingerprint sensor (rear) 3, 050mAh non removable Li-Po battery

Leagoo S8

Design and Display

The Leagoo S8 is an attractive premium looking smartphone thanks to the 18:9 aspect ratio. For a smartphone in the budget category the smartphone has a quality build with metallic bodywork that profers a kind of high-end feel on the smartphone. Also, there’s the bezel-less display and the absence of offscreen capacitive touch buttons to further reduce the bezels to get more screen real estate.

The view on the Leagoo S8 is quite nice apart from the fact that it is a low resolution display. The screen size is slightly bigger than your average screen at 5.7-inch and that’s partly due to the aspect ratio. With a 1440 X 720 resolution and a pixel density of 282 ppi this is not at all bad for a cheap alternative.

Battery and Camera

Unlike old times when phones last days , most smartphone now only gives you about a day without charging before it goes off. In that vein, the Leagoo S8 on an average should last about a day on a full charge with its 3, 500mAh Li-Po battery. Like most recent smartphones out there, the advent of non removable battery is now a trend and the same is featured here.

For taking pictures not much can be expected of a budget smartphone but actually the Leagoo S8 features some nice cameras. The smartphone features an exciting quad camera with a dual 13MP + 2MP rear camera and a 13MP + 2MP front camera. Which to be honest is not a common thing in this price category..

Hardware and Software

In the Leagoo S8 you wouldn’t find the best hardware grade here but the one featured is quite capable of handling things smoothly. The smartphone features an Octa-core MediaTek MT6750T which clocks at 1.5GHz max. In addition, the smartphone sports a 2 core ARM Mali-T860 GPU for munching graphics.

Also, it comes with a 3GB internal memory and a storage capacity of 32GB expandable to 128GB with a memory card. Aside that the device run on Android 7.0 Nougat straight from the factory.

7 Simple Tips for Using Kids Fitness Tracker

Kids today live such sedentary lives, right? It’s hard for them to get the required 60 minutes of activity daily. Are you considering getting a fitness tracker for your child? Fitness trackers are effective and trendy. These devices help kids to stay active and this boosts there health. If you encourage your child to engage in physical activity, the rising number of obese children will reduce. The wearable technology motivates kids to stay active. If you bought your kid a fitness tracker or planning to buy one, the following tips will help kids get the most from the devices.

1. Readiness

Make sure your child is physically and mentally ready. Just because your child is walking doesn’t mean they’re ready. Readiness means both physical and mental preparation. Explain to your kid why they need to stay active. Wait until your child is old enough to get the point. Then, you can start recording their steps. The best time you can introduce a fitness tracker for kids is when they are in first grade. They are old enough and they can begin to track their movement.

2: Choose a device that best suits your kid

There are so many fitness trackers for both adults and kids. Through their goal might be one, they differ when it comes to features and other specifications. A fitness tracker for a kid should be specifically made for them. It is advisable to seek the opinion of an expert to get your best option. Kids’ fitness trackers are easier for the kids to understand and use.  Where possible, customize it to suit their likes. You can get a SpongeBob or Barbie themed band if that’s what your kid likes.

3. Be patient with the steps

You should not expect big performance at the beginning.  In kindergarten and first grade, kids are too young to understand big numbers. Setting a goal of 10000 steps a day may be overwhelming. So, remind them of the little ways they can use to reach the goal of 60 minutes of activity. You may recommend dancing, playing basketball or simply running around the backyard. By doing this, you will encourage the kid to remain more active even when at school.

4. Make it fun

You need to ensure that the whole idea of tracking your fitness is fun and not a chore. At the beginning, kids may not show a lot of interest on the devices.  Once they get used to their devices, keep them interested. One of the best ways in which you can make it fun is setting a challenge and try to beat it. You may offer presents or even track everyone’s progress through a smartphone app. whatever you do, just make sure you keep things exciting. The kids will love you for it.

5. Set individual targets for each child

If you have more than one kid, it is not advisable to set the same goals for the kids. Some kids are active than others and so should be their goals. Since each one of your kids is different, it’s only fair to set separate goals. It would be unfair to set similar goals for a 5-year old and a 10-year old. Keep this in mind to avoid demoralizing the younger kids. If each child has their own goals, they will be motivated to remain active.

6. Make it a family affair

The best way you can enable your kid to get the most from a fitness tracker is leading by example. If you want your kids to track more moves, then you have to do it too. Set aside some time to move together. Apart from giving you the ooh so special time to bond, it’s also fun and effective. You could take a walk together, play tennis or just run around with the kids

7. Encourage them every day

Always set aside to talk about their activities of the day.  You could also offer suggestions on what they can do differently the next day. If, for example, they have only had 40 minutes of exercise on that day, you can suggest taking a 20-minute break to play together. This is a healthy way to ensure kids stay active and physically fit from a young age.

Final Words

In the current world with advancements in technology, most kids spend their time indoors playing games on their devices. It is also great if you encourage kids to engage in physical activity.  To keep them motivated, you can choose the best fitness trackers for kids. With more than a third of children being overweight or obese, fitness trackers are definitely part of the solution. If your child has a fitness tracker, take note of the above tips and your kid will enjoy using a fitness tracker.

The smartphone in terms of design has quite good aesthetics alongside a metal plastic build. The smartphone is quite a nice looking one thanks to the bezel-less and 18:9 approach the comes with. Despite being the resemblance to the Samsung flagship the Leagoo S8  Pro premium quality cannot be compared to the former. The Leagoo S8 Pro also happens to be bigger than the lesser Leagoo S8 smartphone.

The crisp display has an excellent colour reproduction with an impressive pixel density of 403 ppi.

Battery and Camera

There’s quite enough battery to last a day on the smartphone thanks to the non removable Li-Po 3, 050mAh battery which is  kinda mediocre but considering the energy-conserving SoC there’s a chance of more on the smartphone. Another interesting thing is the quick charge feature giving you more charge per time.

A dual camera is always a nice addition but in most cases does not really have effect on the quality of pictures taken by the smartphone. That being said the Leagoo S8 Pro comes with a dual 13MP + 5MP rear camera and a 13MP front camera with a LED flash on both sides which is impressive.

Hardware and Software

Inside, the smartphone sports quite a powerful SoC for a mid-range smartphone ofcos with the Helio P25 chip. Everything on this part is very impressive considering the price range of the smartphone. In that vein, there’s an Octa-core MediaTek MT6757CD with four 2.6GHz clocking cores and the others at 1.6GHz. Also, the smartphone has a two core ARM Mali-T880 GPU which handles gaming and other graphics related matters.

Fero Royale Y2 Specs and Price

The latest addition to the Royale series of smartphones is here. The Fero Royale Y2 is successor of the X2 smartphone which made quite an impression. However,  unlike its predecessor it has a much more attractive design. Although surprisingly it features a downgrade in specs compared to the Fero Royale X2 smartphone. Anyway,  it is still a good buy and we will be taking a look at what it has to offer.

Where to Buy Fero Royale Y2

Jumia Nigeria – See Offers | Jumia Kenya – See Offers | Jumia Ghana – See Offers

Fero Royale Y2 Key Specs and Features 5.5-inch, IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen,  1280 x 720 pixels. (233 ppi) Quad-core MediaTek MT6737 CPU with 2GB 16GB built-in storage,  up to 128GB with memory card 13MP rear camera and 13MP front camera 4G LTE Fingerprint sensor (rear) 3, 900mAh removable Li-Po battery

Fero Royale Y2

Design and Display

Fero has always had a way of crafting nice looking smartphones overtime especially their Royale smartphone series. The new smartphone is certainly no exception with its nice build and solid ergonomics. Made from aluminium alloy the smartphone looks more premium than it actually is.

On the other hand,  not much can be said when it comes to the smartphone’s display has it comes with a low 1280 x 720 pixels resolution on a 5.5-inch screen and a 233 ppi pixel density. Although this on a low side but I guess as an entry level smartphone this will have to do.

Battery and Camera

The Fero Royale Y2 comes with a fairly large battery capacity better than most smartphones in its category. In that regard,  the smartphone has a 3, 900mAh Li-Po battery which is nice isn’t it. However, there’s no quick charge feature here which is quite disappointing.

Although the Fero Royale Y2 is an entry level smartphone the camera featured here is capable of  taking pleasant pictures. In the same vein,  featured on this device is a 13MP rear camera with dual LED flash and an 13MP front camera.

Hardware and Software

Taking care of things on the inside is a rather low level SoC which is understandable being an entry level. So you will not expect the same performance seen in high-end smartphones. The smartphone sports a MediaTek MT6737 processor running at 1.25GHz and a 2 core ARM Mali-T720 GPU.

Fero Pace 2 Lite Specs and Price

One of the recent additions to the low budget smartphones is here from Fero, a company that has been able to deliver a number of impressive smartphones in time past. The Kenyan based company although still young has some good smartphones in its portfolio. The Fero Pace 2 Lite is one of its latest product and it comes at a lesser price and specs compared to the original Fero Pace 2.

Fero Pace 2 Lite Key Specs and Features 5.5-inch, IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 1280 X 720 pixels Quad-Core MediaTek MT6737 CPU with 1GB 16GB built-in storage, up to 32GB with memory card 13MP rear camera and 13MP front camera 4G LTE Fingerprint sensor (rear) 4, 00mAh non removable Li-Po battery

Fero Pace 2 Lite

Design and Display

The Fero Pace 2 Lite is quite like the Pace 2 as it features the same polycarbonate and plastic body. As well as the same overall design with just a little downgrade on the inside. It features the conventional three offscreen capacitive touch buttons and average bezels on the side.  However, the smartphone’s overall ergonomics seems quite alright.

As a budget smartphone not much is expected and what the Fero Pace 2 Lite brings to the table is what other smartphones in its category have. I am taking about a 5.5-inch 1280 X 720 pixels display.

Battery and Camera

This is one of the smartphone’s that features a little higher than the average battery capacity. The Fero Pace 2 Lite comes with a 4, 000mAh Li-Po battery which is quite impressive and is surely an advantage over the fierce competition in this category.

Camera-wise you get about the same thing with the original Pace smartphone. The Fero Pace 2 Lite features a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 13MP front camera which should give you good pictures with enough light.

Hardware and Software

Inside, things are kept pretty basic being a low budget device and a Lite version at that. In that regard, the smartphone features a Quad-Core MediaTek MT6737 clocking at 1. 3GHz . Also, there’s an ARM Mali-400 MP2 GPU for handling graphics rendering.

In addition, there’s 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage with an expansion limit of 32GB using a memory card. The smartphone boots on Android 7.0 Nougat from the box.

Pricing and Availability

The Fero Pace 2 Lite is widely available for sale in various online shopping platforms and smartphone retail stores around. It costs about 32, 000 naira to 38, 000 naira depending on your location and the deal.

Alcatel U5, U5 HD Specs and Price

Alcatel U5 is an offering for budget buyers who desire a mobile phone that provides 4G connectivity. It features a 5-inch display, a quad-core processor, and Android Marshmallow software. The U5 offers a VGA screen, but if you want an updated model with a much sharper HD screen, a better camera, and Android 7.0, go for the Alcatel U5 HD.

Where to Buy Alcatel U5 & U5 HD

Alcatel U5 Key Specs & Features 5-inch IPS Display, 480 x 854 pixels (196ppi) Quad-core Mediatek MT6737M CPU with 1GB RAM Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) 8GB built-in Storage, up to 32GB memory card 5MP Rear Camera and 2MP Front Camera 4G LTE Data (up to 150Mbps download) 2050 mAh Li-ion Battery

Alcatel U5 HD Key Specs & Features 5-inch IPS Display, 720 x 1280 pixels (294ppi) Quad-core Mediatek MT6737M CPU with 1GB RAM Android 7.0 (Nougat) 8GB built-in Storage, up to 128GB memory card 13MP Rear Camera and 8MP Front Camera 4G LTE Data (up to 150Mbps download) 2200 mAh Li-ion Battery

Alcatel U5 HD Smartphone

Build and Screen

While it is in no way an ugly smartphone, you can rather easily guess this is a budget proposition with a body that features plastic. The Alcatel U5 is also on the thick side at 9.95 millimetres. There is no information on the weight, but this shouldn’t be too heavy considering the construction material.

A 5-inch display may be said to be impressive for what they say is a budget device. But the resolution isn’t exactly better than what you can get elsewhere at 854 x 480 pixels. However, if you want a sharper display, the Alcatel U5 HD offers 720 x 1280 pixels on the same 5-inch display, which should be more crisp.

Camera and Storage

Moving to the camera department, the Alcatel U5 is unlikely to blow you away with shot quality, although it shouldn’t fare too badly. It rocks a 5MP sensor on the rear and a 2MP sensor on the front. The primary camera lacks autofocus. But both units features LED flash to improve lighting when capturing images in dark settings.

The Alcatel U5 HD has a better camera with a 13 megapixels camera with autofocus, HDR, and Panorama on back. You also get a much better 8 megapixels camera for taking selfies.

You get 8 GB of inbuilt storage – rather low when you consider the system would occupy a significant portion. But there is room for adding another 32 GB with a microSD card (128GB for the Alcatel U5 HD), though.

Performance and OS

Budget-class performance is what you can logically expect from the U5. This is because it carries a MediaTek MT6737M chipset. The quad-core processor carries out its tasks at a maximum speed of 1.1 GHz. And with only 1 GB of RAM in the mix, you cannot really expect a lot in multitasking. The Alcatel U5 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, while the Alcatel U5 HD.

Other Specs and Features

The main USP of the Alcatel U5 is the 4G LTE (Cat. 4) support that it offers. This means you can enjoy theoretical download speeds of up to 150 Mbps. The maker says this the cheapest 5-incher that offers you this capability.

Necessary juice for the U5 comes from a 2,050 mAh battery, which, years ago, would have sounded great. However, the Alcatel U5 HD sports a slightly bigger 2200 mAh battery. Connectivity features include microUSB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi Direct.

Pricing and availability

Alcatel U5 and U5 HD is not officially available in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana. When available, you will be able to buy the Android phone at leading online stores in the countries. Price of the Alcatel U5 HD starts at around $133. Alcatel U5 and U5 HD Price in Nigeria is expected to start at around 30,500 and 47,500 Naira respectively.

Its price in Ghana is expected at around GH₵ 420. Alcatel U5 Price in Kenya is expected at around 9,999 KSh.

How To Build Your Own Computer From Scratch

When someone tells you that they build computers for a living, you may be impressed. Rightfully so in lots of cases where the people have a deep technical knowledge that can only be achieved after years of learning at the highest level. These people deserve respect. The world is full, however, of people who know just enough to fill their living rooms with parts and assemble them into working computers. These people would be lost if asked to fault find using different types of test equipment that are utilised by the better educated engineers. No, the answer to a faulty part, thanks to the modular design of personal computers, is to discard it and install a new one.

It is because of the modular assembly, and the fact that home computers run on a safe, low voltage, that anyone can assemble their own computer at home and save money by doing so.

Here is the method, and a list of parts you will need, to build your own computer and impress your mom and dad at the same time.

Own Computer From Scratch

Parts

These are the basic parts you will need to buy. The specification of each part will depend on the use to which the computer is to be put. A gaming PC, for example, is going to need high-performance parts that will cost more than those used for office based applications. Take advice from your vendor.

Case: The cases come in standard sizes, ATX, Mini and micro. ATX is probably the most versatile choice and is recommended for a first build.

Power supply: The power supply fits into the case and they are constructed in the various form factors. It transforms mains voltage to low voltage.

Motherboard: Take advice from the vendor as to the best one to suit your purpose.

Processor: The processor must be suitable for the motherboard.

Hard Drive

RAM

DVD Drive.

Heatsink and cooling fan. The heatsink and fan cool the processor

Graphics Card.

Sound Card.

The sound and graphics may be built into the motherboard. You can still add a card, however, if you need better performance.

Construction Begin by installing the motherboard into the case according to the instructions. Cables from the case need to be plugged into the board. They are colour coded, and the instructions are clear. Install the processor by plugging it into the board The heat sink comes next. Use thermal paste on the touching surfaces of the processor and heatsink. Fit the cooling fan onto the heatsink. Install the graphics and sound cards into the appropriate slots on the motherboard. The locations will be obvious when the cards are offered up to the boards. Install the ram modules into their slots. Install the hard drive and connect to the motherboard with the cables provided. Install the DVD drive in the same way as the hard drive. Close the case. Power up the computer.

Build Own Computer

The physical aspects of the build are now complete. All that is left is to install the operating system and the drivers for the components, that came on a disc accompanying the parts. Installing new operating systems is simplicity itself, and you will be guided through the process when the disc starts to run and install.

Everyone should try to build their own computer at least once. There is no great mystery to the process and there is always someone on hand who has done it before and will be able to advise them. It is also, a very satisfying project that could turn into a money-making hobby.
