A group in the All Progressives Congress(APC) known as APC youth renaissance, has called for the arrest of Peter Okoye of P-Square, for going on twitter to attack the Federal Government, over plans to ban entertainers from shooting musical videos and movies outside the shores of Nigeria.
After the announcement was made, a few celebrities took to their social media pages to react to the federal government’s intending policy in the entertainment industry, but it is Peter Okoye of P-square who’s getting poked at.
In a statement released by the group’s national secretary, Collins Edwin, the youth group went as far as describing Peter as a ‘son of darkness’. Read the full statement below
“We read the scurrilous remarks credited to Mr Peter Okoye of the Psquare group against the Federal Government’s job-saving policy in the entertainment industry with great anger and vexation. Least of all persons to make scathing remark against the government is the Psquare group which the local content policy of the Federal Government dusted-up from the valley of obscurity.
Where was Peter Okoye or Psquare brand in 1999 when foreign music dominated our airwaves? If not for the government policy which mandated all broadcast stations in Nigeria to pay attention to Nigerian music by playing 95 percent of Nigerian songs every day, would Peter Okoye or Psquare be known to anybody in Nigeria today? Or would they have competed with better American music which dominated our airwaves then? After the government have used its policy to brush them up from nothing to something; instead of giving opportunity to other people, they are taking Nigerian jobs to foreign countries through the shooting of music videos abroad.
Now that government have intervened to raise great and better entertainers again, Peter Okoye has the gut to insult the entire Federal Government by calling our great leaders ‘Ndi Ala’ which means mad and stupid people. How dare you say that Psquare? We, therefore, urge the security agencies in the country to arrest Mr Peter Okoye for disrespecting our government and bringing it to a disrepute. If you cannot produce in Nigeria and hire Nigerians, then leave the industry. We must export Nigerian culture to the outside world through our music and videos”.

May Brown has died after she relapsed following a successful stem cell transplant to treat Leukaemia. May Brown, 24, and her sister Martha Williams, 26, were the topic of news channels last year when Brown started a campaign for her sister in Nigeria to be granted Visa to the UK so she can donate stem cells to be transplanted in treating her Leukaemia.
Martha was eventually granted Visa after the campaign gathered momentum with more than 61,000 people signing it. The transplant, done in March, was successful however the leukaemia returned, this time more aggressive, and it led to the death of May on Friday. She is survived by her husband and 2-year-old daughter. African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) co-founder Beverley De-Gale said Mrs Brown relapsed in April and it could be because her transplant was delayed by the visa saga.
May Brown was diagnosed with leukaemia in July 2015 and doctors said her only chance of survival was an urgent stem-cell transplant. Her sister Martha was a “10 out of 10” tissue match but Martha, who lives in Nigeria, was denied Visa to the UK because her teacher’s salary of £222 per month was too low. May started a campaign for her sister to be allowed in the UK. About 61,000 people signed an online petition in October and Martha was granted Visa.
The operation was postponed from December to January after May became ill with a virus and required further chemotherapy. It was eventually carried out at King’s College Hospital in London and it was deemed a success in March. May thanked the British public for their support. However, she relapsed soon after. She passed away “surrounded by her loved ones”, ACLT said.
Beverley De-Gale of ACLT said: “The leukaemia came back and it came back very aggressively. The doctors tried again to get May back into remission but sadly the leukaemia was too strong.”
She added she felt the delay in Ms Williams getting a visa may have contributed to Mrs Brown’s death.
“You never know with any cancer what way it’s going to go but any delay is never going to help the situation,” she said. “I sadly have to say that could be a possibility but I am not a medical expert.”

A Federal High Court in Abuja approved an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the forfeiture of the cash, which is believed to have been diverted from the London-Paris Club refund.
Also, the court has seized $500,000 of the $3million diverted by another governor from the refund for the building of a 100-room hotel in Lagos.
But the court has given a 14-day deadline to anyone or group who has interest in the funds to show cause why the cash should not be forfeited to the government.
The federal government yesterday released a state-by-state breakdown of another tranche of Paris Club refund of over-deductions on Paris Club/London Club loans and multilateral debts on the accounts of states and local governments from 1995-2002.
A statement from the Ministry of Finance said these payments — N243, 795,465,195.20 —”were made to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory upon the approval of the President on May 4, 2017”.
Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Kano and Rivers states received the largest disbursements of N10 billion each.
According to the enrolment order, which was obtained last night by our correspondent, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba granted EFCC’s prayer for an interim forfeiture of the cash traced to both First Generation Mortgage Bank Limited and Gosh Projects Limited.
While N500million was linked with the bank, about $500,000 was credited to the account of the Gosh Projects Limited as part of the cash for the 100-room hotel.
The EFCC legal team, led by Prince S.B. Ikani, filed an ex-parte motion on June 19.
The anti-graft agency sought for an order of:
interim forfeiture to the Federal Government (1st Applicant) of the N500million recovered from the first respondent, First Generation Mortgage Bank Limited and presently in the possession of EFCC in its Recovered Funds Account domiciled at the CBN; interim forfeiture to the Federal Government (1st Applicant) of the sum of $500,000 recovered from the second respondent, Gosh Projects Limited and presently in the possession of EFCC in its Recovered Funds Account domiciled at the CBN; and directing the publication of a notice in any national daily newspaper inviting any person(s) or body who may have interest in the subject funds to, within 14 days of the publication of the Order, show cause why an Order of final forfeiture to the Federal Government of the said funds should not be made.Justice Dimgba said: “Upon reading the affidavit in support of the motion ex-parte deposed to by Osas Azonabor and after hearing Prince B. S. Ikani for the applicants, it is hereby ordered as follows:
“That an order is hereby made granting interim forfeiture to the Federal Government of N500million recovered from First Generation Mortgage Bank Limited and presently in possession of EFCC in its Recovered Funds Account domiciled at the CBN.”
“That an order is hereby made granting interim forfeiture to the Federal Government of $500,000 recovered from Gosh Projects Limited and presently in possession of EFCC in its Recovered Funds Account domiciled at the CBN.”
The court asked person(s) or body interested in the funds to come up with a claim within 14 days or lose the cash.
Besides the forfeiture of the cash, the EFCC indicated last night that the two governors implicated in the diversion of the funds will face trial after their tenure.
A source in EFCC said: “We have been unable to join the governors as respondents because they have immunity in line with Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution, which prevents any law enforcement agency from prosecuting them for criminal cases.
“But the case-files have shown their complicity on how they diverted the London-Paris Club refunds to personal use. Those affected will complete their tenure in two years.
“One of the governors is noted for mass looting of public funds. His cup is full with anti-corruption agencies
“As for others used in laundering the cash, we will prosecute them after the final forfeiture of the cash because in seeking justice, you cannot build something on nothing.”
Before the release of the second tranche of London-Paris Club refund on Monday, the Presidency had remitted about N1.266.44trillion to the 36 states in the past one and a half years including N713.70billion special intervention funds.
Following a protest by states against over deductions for external debt service between 1995 and 2002, President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the release of N522.74 billion (first tranche) to states as refund pending reconciliation of records.
Each state was entitled to a cap of N14.5 billion being 25% of the amounts claimed.
The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun said the payment of the claims would enable states to offset outstanding salaries and pension, which had been “causing considerable hardship”.
The governors sought for the loan refund to states and local governments at a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on May 24, 2016.

A Zimbabwean man has been arrested for brutally killing his sister by chopping off her head and selling it to a local businessman.
20-year-old Isaac Mashonga beheaded his 40-year-old sister Dadirai early last week Friday in Zvipani, northern Zimbabwe, after a local businessman offered him $4 000 for a human head.
Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed the brutal incident to state radio that the unnamed businessman needed the head “to boost his business”.
‘Mashonga then chopped off his sister’s head after killing her with an axe at around 02:00 on Friday,’ he said
Mashonga delivered the head to the businessman but was arrested “after he was spotted in a blood-drenched shirt’, he added.
However, It’s yet to be reported if the local businessman has been arrested.
Ritual killings in Zimbabwe are becoming too common occurrence in the country. Some unscrupulous operators believe that human body parts can work as charms to make their businesses more profitable.
Late last month a 22-year old man from the southern town of Gwanda was arrested after he was found in possession of the head and genitals of a homeless man. The suspect, Honest Moyo claimed he’d been offered $25 000 for body parts from a local businessman.
According to him, he said his victim was dead when he found him and “I took what I wanted”
