Disgraced American football star O.J. Simpson, whose racially charged 1995 murder trial riveted the nation, is expected to be released from prison as early as Monday after nine years behind bars for armed robbery.
Simpson, 70, plans to relocate to Florida following his release from the Lovelock Correctional Center, the medium-security prison in Nevada where he has been serving his sentence, said his lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne.
“He is getting very, very excited,” LaVergne told KTNV-TV in Las Vegas. “He’s feeling very upbeat.”
Simpson was granted parole at a hearing in July and his earliest release date was set for October 1. Since that falls on a Sunday, Simpson is expected to be freed no earlier than Monday, according to his lawyer and media reports.
Simpson was found not guilty in 1995 of the grisly murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and a male companion, Ron Goldman, in a case that transfixed the country and became known as the “Trial of the Century.”
But the former National Football League running back and actor was sent to prison in 2008 for his role in an armed robbery the previous year of two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas resort.
Simpson claimed at his trial that he was just seeking to recover personal items from the dealers and he repeated that explanation at his parole board hearing in July, where the four-member panel voted unanimously for his release.
At that hearing Simpson initially did not express any remorse for his actions but eventually offered that he was “sorry that things turned out the way they did.”
“I had no intent to commit a crime,” he said. “If I would have made a better judgment back then, none of this would have never happened.”
LaVergne, Simpson’s attorney, told KTNV-TV that the former NFL star planned to relocate to Florida, play golf and be around his friends and family.
LaVergne said he did not anticipate that Simpson would pose any problems.
“He’s had perfect performance as a prisoner,” LaVergne said. “I anticipate he’s going to have perfect performance as a parolee.”

Hugh Hefner was buried yesterday, Saturday September 30th 2017, at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery, Los Angeles, California, United States. Only a select few of his closest friends and family were on hand for the ceremony.

Our Playboy sources tell us … Hef’s 4 children, his wife Crystal Harris and some key Playboy staffers attended the funeral at L.A.’s Westwood Village Memorial Park Saturday at noon.
As we reported … Hefner’s crypt is directly to the left of Marilyn Monroe’s — he bought the burial spot for $75k in 1992. He’ll have plenty of good company … the cemetery is filled with celebs, many with Playboy ties.
One of the people buried in the cemetery — around 100 feet from Hef’s crypt — is Dorothy Stratten, a Playboy Playmate who was murdered in 1980 by her estranged husband when she was just 20 years old.
Her boyfriend at the time of her death, famed director Peter Bogdanovich, railed against Hefner, blaming him and the “Playboy sex factory” for her demise.

Despite claims that she would receive nothing from his fortune, Hugh Hefner’s widow, Crystal Harris, 31, will keep a stunning home worth $7 million and a $5 million lump sum, it has emerged.
A prenup blocked Harris from receiving a penny of the 91-year-old’s $43 million fortune on his death. Instead, it was divided between his four children, the University of Southern California and a list of charities.
But that same prenup in fact promised Harris a substantial package of money, as well as the four-bedroom Hollywood Hills house that Hefner bought her in 2013, TMZ reported.
Hefner bought the 5,900-square-foot home for $4,995,000 and placed the deed in a trust for Harris in 2012, the year before they married.
At his peak, Hefner was worth upwards of $200million, but as the magazine’s popularity tanked, he lost millions.
He was worth an estimated $43 million in 2009 – a figure that did not include his Playboy Mansion, which he sold in June for $100 million; half its asking price.
By the time of his death, he held 35 per cent of the Playboy brand and still completely owned the magazine. He had $36million worth of stocks and bonds and $6million in a joint account with an unnamed person.
His monthly earnings from the magazine only totaled $100,000, with the rest coming from his pension.
The rest of his estate has been divided between his children: Marston and now-Penthouse-boss Cooper, who were born to second wife Kimberley Conrad; and Christie and David, whom he had with first wife Mildred Williams.
