Chuwi Hi9 Plus: What we know so far

Chuwi Hi9 Plus: What we know so far
Chuwi Hi9 Plus

Based in the heart of ShenZhen City in China, original equipment manufacturer, Chuwi is preparing to update its Hi9 line of tablet PC with a new member, the Chuwi Hi9 Plus.

Being a household name in the affordable tech product and gadgets scene, Chuwi boasts of tablets, laptops, and accessories that ship with unbelievable high-end features and specs at the incredibly low prices they sell for. You can check out some of the brand’s laptop notebooks and tablets.

Segueing to the crux of this article: the Chuwi Hi9 Plus is incoming!!

Chuwi Hi9 Plus

The Chuwi Hi9 Plus will be Chuwi’s latest flagship and will be the successor to other tablets in the Hi9 series — Chuwi Hi9 (released in December 2017), Chuwi Hi9 Air and Chuwi Hi9 Pro (released in Q1 and Q3 2018 respectively).

The soon-to-be-launched Chuwi Hi9 Plus is expected —to some extent— to be modeled after the Chuwi Hi9 Pro which launched with stunning display with 2K resolution, ultra-fast Helio X20 SoC that clocks up to 2.3GHz, high-performing GPU for fluent gaming, and long-lasting 5,000mAh battery — all for $139.99!

Imagine purchasing a tablet with such calibre of high-end specs under $150. Now imagine what the upcoming Chuwi Hi9 Plus will bring onboard.

To even have a better imagination of what the Chuwi Hi9 Plus will launch with, rumour has it that Chuwi plans to release the Hi9 Plus as a competitor to one of Huawei‘s latest flagship tablet, the Huawei Mediapad M5. GizmoChina even reports that Chuwi’s Chief Executive Officer specifically stated that the Hi9 Plus is comong solely to rival Huawei” Mediapad M5.

“The purpose of this tablet (Chuwi Hi9 Plus) launch is to compete with HUAWEI MediaPad M5 Pro” said Chuwi’s CEO.

For reference purposes, the Mediapad M5 was launched by Huawei with 4GB of RAM, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front-facing camera, 8.4-inch display with 2K resolution, Huawei’s native Kirin 960 octa-core chipset, and 5,100mAh battery. The entire aforementioned specs are trumps what the Hi9 Pro offered and this helps gives a reasonable insight to what Chuwi has planned with Hi9 Plus.

Huawei Mediapad M5 Pro

The only guaranteed and known specs of the Chuwi Hi9 Plus, however, are its 266.2 x 177 x 8.1mm dimension and 500 grams weight. This tells that the Hi9 Plus will most likely come with a 10-inch display and a gigantic battery.

On the other hand, the Chuwi Hi9 Plus is also expected to take after the ‘Pro’ edition of the Huawei Mediapad M5 by having a attachable/detachable magnetic keyboard that will make the tablet double as a mobile laptop/workstation. In addition, like the Mediapad M5’s M-Pen, Chuwi ‘might’ launch with a stylus pen.

At the moment, though, there are no information regarding processor and other internal configuration details of the Chuwi Hi9 Plus but it would be exciting to see Chuwi switch from Mediatek to Qualcomm chipset. But then again, such move might lead to an increase in the price of the device; defying Chuwi’s long-standing tradition for affordability.

About price, the Huawei Mediapad M5 Pro has a retail price of $449 and what would make the Chuwi Hi9 Plus a worthy rival? A price half that of the M5 Pro. Or at worst, a $300 price tag. The Chuwi Hi9 Plus is scheduled for a September 2018 release but till then, we promise to update you with whatever new information about the tablet on our news platform.

Stripe, Visa join $8 million Series A round in African Payments Startup Paystack
PayStack
Nigerian payments company Paystack has raised Series A funding from global payments leaders Stripe, Visa, and Tencent In little over two years, Paystack has grown to power tens of thousands of businesses of all sizes, and already processes more than 15% of all online payments in Nigeria—Africa’s largest economy. The funding will be used to fuel Paystack’s continental expansion, build out their payments infrastructure, and grow their engineering team.

LAGOS, AUGUST 28, 2018Paystack, a Nigeria-based startup providing payments tools to businesses in Africa, has raised $8 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Stripe, and includes Visa, follow-on funding from Tencent and Y Combinator, as well as angel investors Tom Stafford (Managing Partner at DST Global), Gbenga Oyebode (founding partner of Aluko & Oyebode and Board member of MTN Nigeria), and Dale Mathias (Co-founder, Innovation Partners Africa).

This brings Paystack’s total investment to date to more than $10 million. Existing investors include Tencent, Y Combinator, Comcast Ventures Catalyst Fund, Blue Haven Ventures, and Ventures Platform.

Within a little over two years, Paystack’s all-African team has grown to process nearly 15% of all online payments in Africa’s largest economy, powering tens of thousands of businesses of all sizes including telcos, airlines, and government agencies.

Paystack provides powerful APIs to help developers quickly build modern payments experiences online. With only a few lines of code, developers can create custom checkout experiences, build automated recurring billing systems for subscription products, instantly send bulk transfers to any bank account in Nigeria, verify the identity of customers through five different verification APIs, and much more.

Through the company’s sleek payments interface, customers can pay with local and international cards, or directly from their bank accounts. Paystack also supports localized payment channels, including mobile money, QR code, and USSD payments. Every payment is screened by sophisticated fraud-monitoring systems to protect merchants from chargebacks, and Paystack’s direct bank integrations ensure the highest transaction success rates.

Paystack Payment Form

Beyond payments, Paystack provides businesses with powerful growth tools in the form of a Dashboard that helps them closely monitor and act on every aspect of their business’ performance, from granular transaction error data, to detailed customer insights.

“As recently as 2015, it was really difficult for a developer or business owner in Nigeria to quickly start accepting online payments,”

says Shola Akinlade, CEO and co-founder of Paystack.

“We started Paystack because we believe that better payments tools are one of the most important things that African businesses need to unlock their explosive potential. We think of Paystack as an amplifier of the incredible work that African business owners are already doing. With better technology tools, African businesses can be better equipped to play a growing role in the global economy.”

“The Paystack founders are highly technical, fanatically customer oriented, and unrelentingly impatient,”

says Patrick Collison, CEO of Stripe.

“We’re excited to back such people in one of the world’s fastest-growing regions.”

“Africa is central to Visa’s long-term growth strategy, especially when you consider how cash is still a primary payment option for millions on the continent,”

says Otto Williams, Head for Strategic Partnerships, Fintechs and Ventures for Visa in Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEMEA).

“Our investment in Paystack aligns with the kind of investments we look for – those that will help extend our reach into the global commerce ecosystem as it changes and grows, and that will provide mutually beneficial business opportunities.”

Paystack will invest the new round of funding in scaling its engineering team, further deepening its payments infrastructure, and accelerating their expansion across the continent.

Akinlade adds:

“As Paystack looks to expand rapidly across the continent, we’re thrilled to have the benefit of the deep experience of Stripe, Visa, and Tencent. Our ambition is to give African merchants the tools and services they need to go toe-to-toe with the best businesses in the world, and win.”

Launched in January 2016 by Shola Akinlade (CEO) and Ezra Olubi (CTO), Paystack was the first Nigerian company to be accepted into Y Combinator. The company is headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria and has raised over $10 million from both international and local investors including Stripe, Visa, Tencent, Y Combinator, Comcast Ventures Catalyst Fund, Blue Haven Ventures, and Ventures Platform.

As part of it’s usability improvements, Cyberlink has simplified the usually complex process of encoding. With the PowerDirector 16 numerous tooltips and description, editors can now easily encode videos by grouping the available options into categories. Videos can, likewise, now be easily exported to various social media and video sharing platforms like Facebook and YouTube.

The PowerDirector 16 also allows for easy burning of video footages to DVDs, 2D or 3D AVCHD discs, and Blu-Ray discs. The burning happens in-app, eliminating the need for a stand-alone burning software.

360º Video Support and Tools

There are a few video editors out there with tools that can smoothly handle and edit 360° videos to the degree PowerDirector 16 does. Some new 360° video tools include of the PD16:

360º Video Stabilization: efficiently (and easily) apply stabilization to 360º video footages. 360° Video Titles: add distortion-resistant titles to 360º videos. 360° Video Object Tracking: this allows users track objects within a 360º space just as easy as it is with standard 2D proejcts. Automatic Audio Ducking

For video editors who use the editor for projects that includes the use of backing track and voice over, the new audio ducking feature might be the biggest addition on this verison.

Automatic Audio Ducking automatically helps identify, analyze, and adjust the volume of a backing track correspondingly to make room for voice inclusion.

Color Grading with LUTs

LUT is an acronym for ‘LookUp Table’; they are a set of preset color adjustments that can be easily applied to video footages. LUTs are available in previous versions but on the PowerDirector 16, they can be used in basic grading, correction, and overall adjustment module found in the PowerDirector. ThisThis eliminates the need to have the advanced ColorDirector module.

Redefined Video Collage Designer

The PD 16 Collage Designer module now allows users combine up to seven (7) different video clips into a single collage and do further customization. The PowerDirector 16 is accompanied by beautifully designed preset collage templates that you can choose from and also gives the users the tools to create their individual preffered collages.

Action Camera Center

While the Action Camera center is not a new addition, it has been improved with better capabilities for action camera footages like enhanced pan and zoom effects and stop motion. This joins other inherent action camera features like fisheye correction and stabilization.
