It is not every day you see an entry-level smartphone with a metallic body like on the Homtom S17 which is crafted in a stylish way. Going for the slender look, the smartphone has an 18:9 aspect ratio with an absolute smooth finish. The speaker is located at the bottom right of the rear panel which can easily get the sound muffled with your phone placed on its back. You have the fingerprint scanner beside the centrally placed camera and the flash on the other end.
On the other end, there is an average sized screen with no notch and then the usual bezels at the vertical ends. The resolution on the phone is 640 x 1280 pixels which is like an HD resolution but a tad lower. But then again with a 5.5-inch screen size, you will not really mind that as it is good enough for the day.
Battery and CameraThe Homtom S17 features a stereotypical average battery with just about that same capacity like a bunch of the rest. In that regard, the smartphone has a 3, 000mAh supplying current with not much of specs in the way. There the normal MicroUSB charging port at the bottom with of course no quick charge function.
You’ve got about the appropriate camera on the smartphone as an entry-level you couldn’t ask for more. At the back, there are two cameras, one 13MP sensor while the other one is a 2MP depth camera. Moving forward, you’ve got an 8MP camera for selfies with facial beautification while also doubling for face unlock.
Hardware and SoftwareThe hardware here us a simple one, just a MediaTek processor with four cores keeping driving functions. The MT6580 chipset is a typical entry-level SoC which translates to you keeping heavy apps at bay. This comes with a Mali-400 GPU and a 16GB internal storage with an added option of up to 32GB with a memory card. Also, there is a 2GB RAM and Android 8.1 Oreo on the phone too.
Homtom S17 Pricing and AvailabilityThe smartphone only costs you 56, 000 Naira depending on the deal and your location.

Homtom is a Chinese OEM that is active in the midrange to low-budget scene but not quite popular yet. The Homtom H10 is a mid-ranger, albeit a bottom shelf one with a notch and carries average specs. It tries to infuse the latest features into the smartphone as you have the notch, dial camera, USB Type-C, face unlock and others on the smartphone. Anyway, let’s see if the smartphone is any good for your money.

Now, to the way the smartphone looks which is an important part of the review and a strong decisive factor for most. You got a reflective rear cover which is most likely glass bearing the widely dubbed iPhone X dual camera styling. Unlike the usual way, the smartphone has its fingerprint scanner on the right side which is also convenient. It is quite slim too having a thickness of just 7.8mm with blue gold and black colour variants.
It is quite obvious there is a notch on the screen because of the intrepid nature of the notch. You’ve also got quite a chunk of bezel at the bottom which clashes with need for a notch at the first place. That aside, you’ve got a large 5.85-inch display and a 1512 x 720 pixel resolution as visuals
Battery and CameraThe Homtom H10 has got its own fair share of battery power to keep it on for the whole day. At the same time, how long the phone will last depend on you but with a 3, 500mAh you could do some few things and still be able to get through the day. It is nice that it has a USB Type-C port but it doesn’t feature fast charge.
Bunch of cameras on the smartphone include a pair at the back and a singular selfie cam. The duo on the rear side is a 16MP camera and 2MP secondary sensor for bokeh shots. Over to the notch at the front, there you’ll find the 8MP camera responsible for selfies and face unlock
Hardware and SoftwareThere is a relatively old SoC on this smartphone, even if it is still capable of handling of most the daily tasks. The MediaTek MT6750 processor is likely to encounter stutter as usage continues and so is the Mali-T860 GPU. Also,it features a 4GB RAM and a 64GB space for storage that can be further increased to 256GB. The operating system on it is the not too recent Android 8.1 Oreo from the box.
Homtom H10 Pricing and AvailabilityThe smartphone sells for about 65, 000 Naira depending on the deal and your location.

Entry level smartphones with a value for money approach offered by several brands among which Realme is a newcomer. The brand which took off on the shoulder of Oppo seems to have found its place already with smartphones like the Realme C1. More like a cheaper Realme 1 that looks like the Realme 2 offering budget features whilst trying to keep compromise at minimum. Let’s take a look at the spec sheet and find out if it’s worth the price.
Even with the entry-level status, the Realme C1 has a look that still tries to keep up with its more premium siblings. That design includes a glossy plastic build with glass-like sheen to improve aesthetics on the phone. There is the absence of the fingerprint scanner favouring the face unlock more just like on the Oppo Realme 1. You also have the sim port at the left side that has space for two 4G VoLTE sims cards and a memory card.
It is quite interesting that even entry-level smartphones are not shying off showing up.with big-screens. Even.if the resolution does not quite favour this indulgence, the 1520 x 720 pixels on the Realme C1 seems like a decent effort. Nonetheless, the notched screen seems to be help a bit I guess, achieving the 6.2-inch screen size.
Battery and CameraYou’ve got the smartphone stuffed up with bug battery for the heavy users to have a field day while still having some left at the end of the day. Touting a mega 4, 230mAh battery capacity, there is enough to take care of watching movies, gaming, browsing and several other indulgences you might have. It has a MicroUSB like the rest of its folks in the entry-level segment
You can still do a bit of some decent picture taking exercise with the Realme C1, although, that would have to be with enough light. Low light picture will get grainy, however, you can still get details to show at the end of the day. The 13MP camera in the rear side has a 2MP depth sensor to achieve portrait background blur. On the reverse, it has a 5MP camera positioned at the front with AI beauty selfies promised.
Hardware and SoftwareFor the sake of this being an entry-level smartphone, the eight-core Qualcomm chipset seems like a good enough chipset. There is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor running tasks on the smartphone, with an Adreno 506 GPU on point for graphics. This means you might have to dim it down a notch for the sake of performance in view of the low-level chipset. Also, you will be getting 2GB RAM alongside 16GB internal storage expandable to 128GB and ColoOS 5.1 (Android 8.1 Oreo).
Realme C1 Pricing and AvailabilityThe smartphone will cost you in the region of 41, 000 Naira depending on the deal and your location.
Here are a few specs of the Realme C1:
General Features Platform: Android 8.1 Oreo Processor: Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 GPU: Adreno 506 Memory: 2GB RAM Colours: Black, Blue Dimension: 156.2 x 75.6 x 8.2 mm Weight: 168g SIM Type: Nano SIM SIM Count: Dual SIM Display Display: 6.2-inch, IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 1520 x 720 pixels Screen Protection: – Camera Rear Camera: Dual 13MP + 2MP camera, 1080p Video@30fps Rear Camera Features: Autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama Front Camera: 5MP camera, 720p Video@30fps Storage Built-in Storage: 16GB Memory Card Support: Yes, up to 256GB Bundled Cloud Storage: – Network Support 2G GSM: Yes 2G CDMA 1X: – 3G WCDMA: Yes 3G CDMA EVDO: – 4G LTE: LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 8(900), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500) Internet & Connectivity GPRS: Yes EDGE: Yes 3G/WCDMA/HSPA: Yes HSPA+: 42.2/5.76 Mbps CDMA EVDO: – 4G LTE: LTE-A (2CA) Cat 6 300/50Mbps WLAN: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, wi-fi direct Wi-Fi Hotspot: Yes Bluetooth: Yes, v4.2 with A2DP LE NFC: – Infrared Blaster: – USB Port: MicroUSB 2.0 Messaging SMS/MMS: Yes Instant Messaging: Yes Push Emails: Yes Email Protocol: – Entertainment Music Player: MP3/WAV/eAAC+ player Video Player: MP4/H.264 player FM Radio: Yes Loudspeaker: Yes 3.5mm Jack: Yes Navigation Navigation: Yes, with A-GPS, GLONASS Maps: Yes Sensors & Control Digital Compass: Yes Accelerometer: Yes Proximity Sensor: Yes Light Sensor: Yes Barometer: – SpO2: – Pedometer: – Heart Rate Monitor: – Gyroscope: – Fingerprint Scanner: – Iris Scanner: – Face Unlock: Yes Intelligent Digital Assistant: – Motion Sensing / Gesture Control: – Voice Control: – Other Features Video Streaming: Yes Active Noise Cancellation: Yes Wireless Charging: – Built-in Mobile Payment: – Water Resistant: – Dust Resistant: – Image Editor: Yes Video Editor: Yes Document Viewer: Yes Document Editor: Yes Battery Battery: 4, 230mAh non removable Li-Po battery Talktime: – Standby Time: – Fast Charging: –The post Realme C1 Specs and Price appeared first on Nigeria Technology Guide.
What started as an Oppo subsidiary earlier this year as now recently launched as a brand on its own. The Realme is more kike a budget centered brand that is concerned about offering great value for money. This way you can still get a nice smartphone with impressive features and design too. That said, the Realme 2 Pro is here and it showcases everything the brand stands for. However, the smartphone is nothing like it’s predecessors with dew water drop notch and large screen.
It is quite commendable how nice and attractive a plastic build can look which is due to the heavy glossing it has. Consequentially, this makes it prone to scratches and a dirt magnet too that warrants for measures like a cover case or being extra careful. The smartphone sports the volume rocker at the left along with sim port and the power button on the opposite side. The dewdrop notch has proven to be quite an aesthetic booster and is gradually becoming more popular by the day.
The smartphone takes big sized display up a notch literally by featuring a 6.3-inch LCD screen. Have you always been craving for more visual space on a smartphone? Then you might actually like the Realme 2 Pro. It is not just large, it has brilliant colour display and boasts of a 2340 x 1080 pixel resolution all on a smartphone that does not cost too much.
Battery and CameraTo make an all round stellar smartphone, the Realme also comes with a capable battery capacity with much on-screen time to offer. You’ll be dealing with a 3, 500mAh battery which is good for the daily usage be it gaming, social media, streaming videos or music, call and so on. There is the MicroUSB port rather than. the recent USB Type-C type and should also feature a fast charge feature which is not clear yet.
The smartphone delivers an average performance from its cameras as there is only much you can get from a midrange smartphone anyway. There is a dual camera at the back featuring a 16MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor for background data. There are AR stickers, bokeh shits, electronic image stabilization and AI advances to make the picture better. Some of the features are also carried on to the 16MP front camera making selfies social media worthy.
Hardware and SoftwareAt the midrange level, the chipset featured on this smartphone is quite powerful and with the set price you are getting real value for money. All variants come with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor but vary in terms of RAM size and storage. You’ve got the 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage model and another with 6GB RAM having the same storage space. Most premium option here has 8GB RAM and 128GB storage size and like the other can be expanded to 256GB with a memory stick. Like Oppo phones, it has ColorOS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Realme 2 Pro Pricing and AvailabilityThe 6GB version goes for about 72, 000 Naira and the most premium version 92, 000 Naira depending on the deal.
Here are a few specs of the Realme 2 Pro:
General Features Platform: Android 8.1 Oreo Processor: Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 GPU: Adreno 512 Memory: 4GB/6GB/8GB RAM Colours: Black, Deep Blue, Light Blue Dimension: 156.7 x 74 x 8.5 mm Weight: 174g SIM Type: Nano SIM SIM Count: Dual SIM Display Display: 6.3-inch, IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 1080 x 2340 (409 ppi) pixels Screen Protection: Camera Rear Camera: Dual 13MP + 2MP camera, 1080p Video@30fps, 2160p Video@30fps Rear Camera Features: Autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama Front Camera: 16MP camera, 1080p Video@30fps Storage Built-in Storage: 64GB/128GB Memory Card Support: Yes, up to 256GB Bundled Cloud Storage: – Network Support 2G GSM: Yes 2G CDMA 1X: – 3G WCDMA: Yes 3G CDMA EVDO: – 4G LTE: LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500) – GlobalLTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 8(900), 34(2000), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500) – India Internet & Connectivity GPRS: Yes EDGE: Yes 3G/WCDMA/HSPA: Yes HSPA+: 42.2/5.76 Mbps CDMA EVDO: – 4G LTE: LTE-A (2CA) Cat 6 300/50 Mbps WLAN: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, wi-fi direct, dual-band Wi-Fi Hotspot: Yes Bluetooth: Yes, v5.0 with A2DP LE NFC: – Infrared Blaster: – USB Port: MicroUSB 2.0 Messaging SMS/MMS: Yes Instant Messaging: Yes Push Emails: Yes Email Protocol: – Entertainment Music Player: MP3/WAV/eAAC+ player Video Player: MP4/H.264 player FM Radio: Yes Loudspeaker: Yes 3.5mm Jack: Yes Navigation Navigation: Yes, with A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS Maps: Yes Sensors & Control Digital Compass: Yes Accelerometer: Yes Proximity Sensor: Yes Light Sensor: Yes Barometer: – SpO2: – Pedometer: – Heart Rate Monitor: – Gyroscope: Yes Fingerprint Scanner: Yes (rear) Iris Scanner: – Face Unlock: Yes Intelligent Digital Assistant: – Motion Sensing / Gesture Control: – Voice Control: – Other Features Video Streaming: Yes Active Noise Cancellation: Yes Wireless Charging: – Built-in Mobile Payment: – Water Resistant: – Dust Resistant: – Image Editor: Yes Video Editor: Yes Document Viewer: Yes Document Editor: Yes Battery Battery: 3, 500mAh non removable Li-Ion battery Talktime: – Standby Time: – Fast Charging: Yes

With new chipsets comes new smartphones and the bearer of this new midrange processor is Vivo Y95. The smartphone comes with an impressive design and camera targeted at the selfie lovers that don’t have much to part with. Sort of a bottom midranger,, the smartphone offers some quite interesting specs which makes it quite enticing price-wise. The smartphone looks good too and comes with a halo notch which is where you have your camera, sensors and others.
Jumia Nigeria – See Offers | Jumia Kenya – See Offers | Gearbest – See Offers
The Vivo midrange smartphones have a visible similarity between them and same reflects on the Vivo Y95. Also, it has the new style of notch called the halo notch and the gradient colour adopted at the rear side is good for aesthetics too. There is the plastic build on the smartphone which is advertently so because of the lower part of the midrange class it is.)
You’ve got a good display based on the level of the smartphone’s premiumness which coincide with what is offered by similarly priced competition. The Vivo Y95 favours the lovers of a large display as it sports one having a 6.22-inch size. However, it is not really as impressive with the 1520 x 729 pixel resolution.
Battery and CameraWhat you’ve got in here is what you might call a smartphone with a mammoth battery and this comes in handy sometimes when the situation warrants it. It does feature a MicroUSB port for charging and decidedly no fast charge feature. The smartphone is with 4, 030mAh battery capacity, good for the day’s work even when it comes to taking that extra mile.
On the subject of taking pictures on the smartphone, you should be satisfied with the level quality offered by the phone especially on the selfie side. Over to the rear side of the smartphone, there is the combo of a 13MP camera and a 2MP depth sensor. However, it seems to favour selfie more by featuring a 20MP front camera with AI processing and portrait mode available.
Hardware and SoftwareAs mentioned earlier, the chipset on the Vivo Y95 is new with the much-coveted 12nm process and eight core running. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 released earlier this year comes with Adreno 505 GPU in charge of graphics. Also, the smartphone has a sufficient 4GB RAM to ease performance and run multiple programs seamlessly. A 32GB storage space is placed in the smartphone for storing your musics, videos and other files accompanied by the privilege of expansion up to 256GB. There is the FuntouchOS 4.0 on the smartphone based on Android 8.1 Oreo of course.
Vivo Y95 Pricing and AvailabilityThe smartphone cost in the region of 90, 000 Naira depending on the deal and your location.
Here are a few specs of the Vivo Y95:

Announced at the Computer 2018 event back in June 2018, the ZenBook S is ASUS’s latest premium laptop with brilliant design and also one of the best portable workstation money can buy you at the moment. On the inside, the Asus ZenBook S wouldn’t disappoint either as it sports fast and responsive Intel 8th generation processors, as well as just the right amount (and more) of RAM to keep applications running without hassle.
The display quality is also brilliant and comes in different options that can be customized according to preference. In terms of size and its lightweight nature, the Asus ZenBook S is unbelievably impressive when performance is taken into consideration. And although it is a bit pricey, it is a very good alternative to high-end 13-inch ultrabooks like the Dell XPS 13. ND HP Spectre 13.
ASUS ZenBook S Key Specs 13.3-inch FHD or 4K IPS, non-touch, matte or reflective display Intel KabyLake-R Core i5-8250U or Core i7-8550U CPU Intel UHD 620 8 GB LPDDR3 (soldered) or 16GB (soldered) 256GB or 512GB SSD 1x USB 3.1 Type-C gen 1, 2x USB-C with Thunderbolt 3, mic/headphone 50 Wh battery Windows 10 Backlit keyboard, VGA webcam, available in Deep Dive Blue and Burgundy Red DesignThe metal alloy material used to built the top and bottom chassis reeks of nothing but sturdiness, brilliant ergonomics, and premiumness. Also, the device was manufactured using up to 40 processes and is MIL-STD 810 G tested against extremes of temperature, humidity, shock etc.
One of the highlights of the laptop’s design is its hinge mechanism which ASUS calls the ‘ErgoLift’ hinge. When you pen the ZenBook S lid, the bottom chassis (or base) is tilted upward to about 5.5 degrees food improved airflow, audio quality, as well as overall typing experience. Perhaps due to the need to keep the ZenBook S as slim as possible, a couple of connectivity ports have been axed off. All the Asus ZenBook S comes with are USB-C ports and an audio jack. Interestingly, despite the lack of some vitl ports, Asus makes up for it by adding a couple of accessories out-of-the-box. USB-C to USB-A, USB-C to HDMI etc.
The ZenBook S ultrabook is available in Deep Dive Blue and Burgundy Red colour options. The keyboard is backlit, looks smooth, and comfy. Likewise the touchpad. Interestingly, there is a fingerprint reader embedded in the touchpad for Windows 10 Hello authentication support.
DisplayWhile there are three display configurations of the Asus ZenBook S, they all have the same 13.3-inch IPS panel display with slim bezels that are perhaps the narrowest you’d find on a 13-inch laptop. There are three different options to configure the ZenbZen S display.:
13.3-inch touchscreen, matte FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution 13.3 inch non-touch, glossy FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution 13.3 inch touchscreen glossy UHD (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) resolution Processor and StorageThe Asus ZenBook S will perform brilliantly with unruffled speed and fluidity as it uses Intel latest 8th generation Whiskey Lake hardware. It is available in Core i5-8250U and Core i7-8550U variants both of which are laced with Intel UHD 620 Graphics.
The Core i5 model of the ZenBook S comes with 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD while the Core i7 counterpart sports 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. The RAM, as well as the processor, are soldered to the main board. This means that RAM cannot be replaced or expanded. The SSD, however, isn’t soldered and can be easily replaced, expanded, or both. Both versions of the ZenBook S run the Home Edition of the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system out-of-the-box.
BatteryThe Asus ZenBook S has a 50Wh battery which, though won’t supply all-day battery life and usage, can last anywhere between 6 hours to 8 hours on in light usage, minimal brightness, and other factors. The battery is held by a screw and can be replaced and swapped easily.
PriceThe Asus ZenBook S is priced according to the following configurations:
Model 1: Intel Core i7-8550U CPU, 16GB RAM, a 512GB PCIe SSD, 13.3-inch 4K UHD display — ~$US 1,500. Model 2: Intel Core i5-8250U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, FHD display — ~$US 1,200.The post ASUS Zenbook S Specs and Price appeared first on Nigeria Technology Guide.
There’s no denying that WordPress comprises a large part of our Internet usage. With so many people running blogs now, around 20 million websites are connected to this platform in some manner. WordPress might have simply started out as an open-source platform for blogging, but is now a major content management system (CMS).
However, when you use this CMS, you must also consider certain practices in order to secure your business. You can exercise more control when you use WordPress on AWS or Amazon Web Services, but you must retain it. Not sure why this is relevant or how to go about it? Read on below!
The WordPress ConceptThe initiation of WordPress was based on PHP, not the cloud infrastructure so many of us depend on now. It also uses MySQL for a database backend server. With the expanding capabilities of WordPress now, it has to work alongside AWS in order to cater all its users.
Hence, we can see AWS managing many features of WordPress, especially regarding the easy installation. Papertrail is another app where you can manage applications using AWS.
Using AWS has several advantages, especially over using a shared server. The latter would slow you down with their delayed response rates, low security, and low up-time. In this manner and many others, AWS is the way to go.
AWS is a form of cloud hosting that enables WordPress the same benefits. It’s hence not bound by the many limitations of shared host servers. You can scale it to reflect your traffic spikes and only pay for what you utilize.
Once you get the experience, you may also install it yourself quite easily. For larger websites, then, using AWS is much more efficient than the transitional way.
The Best PracticesNow that you know the perks of transitioning to AWS, there are a few practices to optimize your experience. Setting up through AWS could take some time, but these practices will help you along:
Enabling SSL CertificatesAWS doesn’t use cPanel on its server, so you’ll have to manage without or buy the license separately. Secure the server you’re using with an SSL certificate. This will change your URL from an HTTP:// in the beginning to an HTTPS://. This will help you in your Google rankings.
For payments on your website, it’s recommended that you get a paid certificate using RapidSSL or something similar. If you’re not dealing in financial transactions, the free version ‘Let’s Encrypt’ will work for you. Use Certbot in the latter case, as it has detailed guides.
After generating the SSL certificate, change any internal links on WordPress to the new URL prefix. You can use the plugin ‘Better Search-Replace’ to accomplish this. As the ‘Let’s Encrypt’ certificate is valid for just 90 days, make sure you renew it after this time period.
Scaling With Load BalancersThe most effective websites today have a high level of scalability. LightSail is a common server within AWS. When using LightSail, you get an inexpensive option but there’s a very low server limit available. For higher vertical scaling, more bandwidth, or more RAM, utilize the inbuilt instance feature in LightSail.
You can do this by clicking ‘manage’ on your LightSail Panel for vertical scaling. You can click Snapshot for a kind of backup. Then, use that snapshot to create your new instance. For the final step, attach your website’s static IP to the new instance and verify to be sure.
Horizontal scaling requires some more planning with the AWS Load Balancer. After you get your new servers, the Load Balancer will make everything operate properly. Access the Balancer from the LightSail Home Screen, which you’ll find in ‘Networking’ under ‘Location.’ Once you have your location, you can enable either HTTPS or HTTP as required.
CloudWatch MonitoringYour website ruins smoothly through logging, but loading issues and other errors can damage its reliability. You can use the logging plus monitoring feature of Amazon CloudWatch to regulate your AWS resources. These include your load balances and EC2 instances. The metrics will let you check the amount of memory you’re using, any errors, and volume transactions.
Offloading Static ContentStatic content such as extra images can slow down your website. Amazon S3 or Simple Storage Service can help to offload this. The W3 Total Cache plugin can also help to optimize your storage system using a cost-effective infrastructure. Once you offload extra content, you can easily concentrate on generating more dynamic content.
It’s quite apparent that there are several practices to make AWS work well for your WordPress website. You can easily scale and customize it to feel confident as a host. You’ll also get the best performance, security, and speed available. Make use of the best practice above to help along your online dealings.
