Africa – The Playground for Scammers of Cryptocurrency

Africa – The Playground for Scammers of Cryptocurrency
Africa - the playground for Scammers of Cryptocurrency

It is true the continent of Africa had seen some major reforms this year. Millions of African people are now connected with the Internet better than ever. Also, inflation hitting hard in Africa countries needs an alternate solution to the central banks and Cryptocurrencies offers a battling chance for people in Africa.

There are about 600-700 Million mobile subscribers and it will grow more. This justifies that people in Africa have the tool to operate and manage the Cryptocurrency applications. Africans are not well-equipped with jobs, investment education, financial resources, and therefore are more prone to Ponzi schemes built around cryptocurrency like MMM. As more people are interested in Cryptocurrencies as a result of the hype around it, the scams tend to increase in numbers.

Africa being the new market for Crypto makes it vulnerable. There has been a sharp increase in scams related to Cryptocurrencies. The most recent would be the Apexcoins.

Attractive returns and no investment are the two pillars of attraction. Most of the Cryptocurrencies are not regulated by government. People are not well literate about Cryptocurrencies and the scammers take advantage of this situation. Instead of people getting rich the scammers get rich. Understanding these scams is necessary to avoid it in the future.

Apexcoins is said to be a subsidiary of a UK based firm. Customers who use Apexcoins have an opportunity to see their investment (Cryptocurrency) grow while the firm invests it. The firm highlights the fact that the investment made by the customer is backed by real-life assets. The first thing you have to do is to buy Bitcoin.

The company mostly uses bitcoin for the investment purpose. Next thing is to engage with the Apexcoins specialist. This specialist will now reinvest your money into real-life assets like real estate, securities, etc. This way your investment will grow and profits will be earned. These profits are paid out on weekly basis according to three investment plans.

Basic plan: Investment of $100-1000 with a weekly return of 8.25 percent for a period of three months. Premium holder plan: Investment of $1000-100000 with a guaranteed return of 30 percent monthly for a period of one, three or six months. VIP plan: Investment of anything greater than $100000 with a 33 percent interest per month for a six month period.

Reading these plans anyone will invest in it but the website doesn’t provide any information on how Apexcoins invests your money and how they provide such high returns on a weekly or monthly basis. You have an option of reinvesting the money or withdraw the money after the end of the period.

These are some Common Red flags of a Ponzi scheme: Claiming guaranteed high returns on a weekly or monthly basis. Claiming investors can only incur profits and no loss. The company not paying its employees and is in the news. The website of the firm disappears after some time. No digital footprint of the team members of the whitepaper. No social media activity and no support from the website for any query.

You should be aware of these red flags and if you see one do not invest in it. If any government or financial authority is suggesting you should not invest in it, then you should listen.

Apexcoins appears to be a Ponzi scheme which is gathering funds from newcomers in the digital currency and people are unable to identify it. As we know, bitcoin is crashing along with all the other Cryptocurrencies, so how is it possible to get such returns?

How these Scams work Uncontrolled brokers and exchanges: There are many brokerage and exchange firms which are unregulated. As soon as you deposit the money, many will charge high commissions or you will be blocked out of the account. In the worst case, your money will be lost with the dream of becoming rich quickly. Fake Wallets: Almost everyone nowadays has a mobile and mobile wallets are available for free on the play store or apple store. But only some of us know which one is real and which one is not. Chances of losing money are much higher and it is one of the easiest ways to con people. These wallets often capture your private keys and withdraw the Cryptocurrency in your name. Pump and Dump groups: There are many groups which invite newcomers to invest in the coins that are in the trend with an increasing graph. These people create fake hypes and once the newcomers invest in the coin they dump their coin and the value comes down. In this way, your investment goes into the loss. You should always read about the coins and study the trend chart of it. This method is illegal in every other market. Malware downloads: With the growing Internet curse like Virus or Malware also grew and infected the systems of many people. You might be receiving emails on a daily basis which contains dangerous links which will infect your computer. For example, someone sends an email which says- you can start mining bitcoin with a single click, or some guidelines for the newcomers to get started. These emails contain Malware and you should not click on it or reply to the sender. Before doing anything, do your homework or research. Do not make any hasty decisions and be free of this web of frauds.

Many researchers are suggesting that the instant rise in the price of bitcoin in 2017 was just like the dot-com bubble. Some facts suggest that Cryptocurrency is used by criminals for funding.

In conclusion, it is evident from the fact that Cryptocurrencies can be used in scamming people and one should be more aware of it. Cryptocurrency like bitcoin are widely popular and also has a certain advantage over the traditional payment system but it is a double-edged sword. Be alert of the scams and Ponzi schemes and invest in the right Cryptocurrency.

Huawei Honor Play 8A Specs and Price
Huawei Honor Play 8A

The word ‘Play usually appears in what seems to be budget smartphones and that is exactly what we see here as another of such from Huawei is released. The new Huawei Honor Play 8A comes with humble specs and a nice design. You won’t even find a fingerprint scanner on the smartphone but it does have face unlock on it and you know how that goes. If you are a fan of the water drop notch then that gives this smartphone a mark because it has one. Let’s get into the nitty-gritty here already. Shall we?

Where to Buy Huawei Honor Play 8A

Jumia Nigeria – See Offers | Jumia Kenya – See Offers | Jumia Ghana – See Offers

Huawei Honor Play 8A Key Specs and Features 6.01-inch, IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen,  720 x 560 pixels Android 9.0 Pie Octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 CPU with a 3GB/4GB RAM 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera 32GB built-in storage space, up to 512GB with a memory card 4G LTE Fingerprint scanner (rear) 3, 020mAh non-removable Li-Po battery

Huawei Honor Play 8A

Design and Display

The blueprint here is pretty much simple with a plain finish no gradients and with a drop notch on top of the screen up front. There is a single camera at the left edge of the back cover and a tiny flash below it. To the font, there is Honor written legibly at the bottom of the screen and some considerably slim bezels around the screen. It is available in red, black, gold and blue colours.

The display here almost extends all the way to the top thanks to the small notch which takes up the middle space at the top. It can also qualify as large with its 6.01-inch size, although kind of norms in these modern times. However, the screen is not so punchy with just a 1560 x 720 pixel resolution to back it up.

Battery and Camera

The Huawei Honor Play 8A goes along with several other budget smartphones out there with just about the middling capacity. In that the regard, the smartphone sports a 3, 020mAh battery capacity enough on light usage. As you’d expect, the smartphone features a MicroUSB port with no fast charge in sight.

Don’t quite bother about the camera prowess on this smartphone because it is just about the money’s worth it delivers. That sums it up in a single 13MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie shooter which performs averagely in full light and poorly in low light.

Hardware and Software

Internals is within the budget circle as it features a MediaTek eight-core chipset. The Helio P35 is a rather new budget SoC and it is paired with PowerVR GE8320 GPU. Also in the mix is 3GB RAM accompanied by either a 32GB or 64GB internal storage space depending on your choice. Anyway, you will still be getting Android 9.0 Pie and I should also tell you that the storage is expandable up to 512GB with memory card.

Huawei Honor Play 8A Pricing and Availability

The 3GB model goes for about 43, 000 Naira while the higher 64GB version sells for around 54, 000 Naira depending on the deal and your location.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Specs and Price
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7

Redmi was later last year announced to be a separate brand which makes the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 to be the first in the Note series to carry the new banner. The new smartphone very much looks like the bigger version of the Xiaomi Mi Play. In terms of specs, the smartphone fits perfectly in the mid-range category and has a 48MP rear camera as the highlight. Like the ones before it, the smartphone is priced in a way that gives it quite a good value for your money.

Where to Buy Xiaomi Redmi Note 7

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Key Specs and Features 6.3-inch, IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 1080 X 2340 pixels Android 9.0 Pie Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 CPU and 3GB/4GB/6GB RAM 32GB/64GB built-in storage space, up to 256GB with a .memory card Dual 48MP + 5MP rear camera and a 13MP front camera 4G LTE Fingerprint scanner (rear) 4, 000mAh non-removable Li-Po battery

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7

Design and Display

The Redmi brand is known to recycle design on its smartphones, in fact, the entire Xiaomi brand is known to do so. In all, the smartphone takes after others before it, with a similar design just different internals which makes it cheaper to make. Nonetheless, the smartphone still looks good maintaining the nice gradient design. There are the bezel reduction all over the screen style and the circular notch at the top of the screen.

Going for a fairly large screen, the smartphone does have a decent display on board albeit an LCD type. There is the four curved corners of the screen with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for extra protection and durability. Resolution-wise, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is supplied with 1080 x 2340 pixels on a 6.3-inch sized screen.

Battery and Camera

The past few generations of Redmi Note smartphones have maintained quite the same battery capacity. A faily large 4, 000mAh capacity battery can be spotted on the smartphone which is quite enough for the proprietary till the end of the day timeline. You’ve also got fast charge through the USB Type-C port on the smartphone smoothening the process.

For the photography part, the smartphone is spear headed by a 48MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture and a 0.8µm pixel size alongside a 5MP secondary sensor both on the rear side. There are features like portrait mode, EIS, low light shot enhancement and slow-mo videos. Over to the other side, smartphone is equipped with a 13MP front camera.

Hardware and Software

There is an upgrade from the its predecessor for sure me as we have a number of variants. All with a an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset and an Adreno 509 GPU as well. However, you’ve got a 3GB RAM version with 32GB ROM, a 4GB RAM model having 64GB of storage space and a 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage peak model. They all have support for expansion up to 256GB and as well carry Android Pie on them.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pricing and Availability

The smartphone is for sale for about 55, 000 Naira for the 3GB variant while the 6GB model cost 73, 000 Naira depending on the deal and your location.

Xiaomi Mi Play Specs and Price
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7

Xiaomi is finally adopting the water drop notch in their smartphones as seen on the Xiaomi Mi Play. The smartphone comes in as one of the low-level mid-range smartphones. You will get some nice range of features on the smartphone which includes a nice display, average camera and decent design. It does not exactly qualify as a performer in terms of hardware. However, it qualifies as a decent smartphone maybe a second smartphone or a choice for those on a budget.

Where to Buy Xiaomi Mi Play

Jumia Nigeria – See Offers | Jumia Kenya – See Offers | Jumia Ghana – See Offers

Xiaomi Mj Play Key Specs and Features 5.84-inch, IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 1080 x 2280 pixels Android 9.0 Pie Octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 CPU with 4GB RAM 64GB built-in storage space, up to 256GB with a memory card Dual 12MP + 5MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera 4G LTE Fingerprint scanner (rear) 3, 000mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery

Xiaomi Mi Play

Design and Display

You would most certainly like the design of the Xiaomi Mi Play, although, the glossy back might not actually catch the fancy of some. The smartphone can be gotten in black, red, dreamy blue and Shuguang Gold finish. Also, it has a gradient design which makes it more than attractive as well as light weight at 150g. There is a water drop notch and considerable bezel reduction surrounding the display. Likewise, the smartphone retains the audio jack port and has a typical dual camera at the top left position and a centred fingerprint sensor at the rear.

Visuals are quite strong on an average and features an LCD screen with a notch on top. You’ve got a 2.5D glass here too with rounded screen corners that gives it a nice look. The screen is 5.84-inch in size and comes with a 1080 x 2280 pixels resolution which is more or less good for a smartphone of this calibre.

Battery and Camera

As regards keeping your smartphone on, the Xiaomi Mi Play has a mediocre battery which should take you for the day. However, you should be prudent in your usage being that the battery only comes with a 3, 000mAh capacity. You will be dealing with a MicroUSB port for charging your device instead of the better USB Type-C option.

Budget is written all over the camera on the smartphone despite the duo at the back. At the back is a duo of 12MP and 5MP camera stashed at the left part. Moreso, you will be getting AI included among the other perks of the camera system here. In notch hole is an 8MP selfie snapper handling business for average looking selfies.

Hardware and Software

In addition, to the decent features, the smartphone packs a MediaTek Helio P35 processor to taking care of things. Also, there is 4GB RAM and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU which as you know handles graphics  and it performs an average job of it on this smartphone. It has the latest Android 9.0 Pie running on it with 64GB storage space capacity inside.

The smartphone costs about 60, 000 Naira depending on the deal and your location.
