Ondo Poly student drownsA student of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Olagundoye Oladotun, has drowned in a river at Igbekebo, the headquarters of the Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

If a sex scene is not going to be well done, why do it in the first place — Omotola talks about sex scene
omotola400022 (3)Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde

Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde, who recently returned to the big screen after a three-year hiatus, has opened up on her career, music, sex, marriage and future plans in a chat with The Entertainer. Read below…

*You took a rather long break from the movie industry, why?

I have been around but I have been building my businesses, film village in Badagry and some other personal international projects. I took time to creatively re-organise myself.

*How far have you gone with the film village?

So far, my husband and I have over 20 plus acres of land in Badagry. He has his for his ‘Aquatic Jungle Entertainment’ and I have mine for the film village. We have started with the first phase, which will have a cinema and other attractions. It is in its early stages, but surely, we are making progress.

*How soon would all these be ready?

That won’t be this year but maybe, next year. We are talking to some investors because the film village is quite a huge project. Buying lots of plots of land could be stressful. But at this stage, we are building gradually.

*Talking about the film village in Badagry, are you in partnership with the Lagos State government?
No, not now. I had a meeting with the former governor (Babatunde Fashola); he knows about the project but I haven’t visited the new governor (Akinwunmi Ambode) yet. I also started another project in Ikeja, it is like a smaller version of what I am doing in Badagry. It is called The Double Doors Film Village. So, these are things that I have been putting together.

*How do you connect closely with your co-stars when playing sex scenes, I mean the chemistry between actors in movies?

Sometimes you can tell while watching a movie that a couple doesn’t have chemistry. It is not something you can force. Some actors are very good at acting it. But sometimes, when it has to do with love, relationship, it’ is not easy to play. When you want to act like you love the person, there are some natural acts and gesticulations that you can’t force. But if you are a well-trained actor, you would not find that difficult. There are some little tricks to these things that some actors don’t know. You can make it happen and look real too, especially in love and sex scenes.

*Talking about the film, Alter Ego, how did you come about having so much chemistry with Wole Ojo?

I have heard about him so much but the movie was the first time we got together. When we got to know we would be acting together, we spent a lot of time playing; we played very rough. I understand the power of being so close to your love interest in a movie, so we became very close even before the shooting. We ate together and spent lots of time together, and had each other’s interest at heart. It helped us to bring out our best in Alter Ego.

*In Alter Ego, lots of movie critics believe you over played the raunchy scenes, did that get at you?

When I wasn’t even that confident, I starred in a movie called The Prostitute, which was released 22 years ago. If I didn’t die then, is it now? I am ready for them. I don’t even like watching myself on screen. If I do, I will feel like burning inside and might even start crying because I criticise myself a lot. Sometimes, I pity those watching especially when I poorly do a sex scene. I would be like ‘what was that for?’ It can kill the whole movie when it’s poorly done. For me, if a sex scene is not going to be well done, then why do it in the first place? If you must kiss, you should be able to kiss well; make it professional.

*How have you succeeded to reinvent yourself? Every year you look younger and better in your role interpretation?

I think it is knowing what matters and being authentic and real. But in all, you must make sense. I am blessed that at a very tender age, I was able to find God, so my Christian values have been able to let me know what is wrong and what not to do. That way, the core me is real. I no dey form. With me, what you see is what you get. I don’t have time to live fake lifestyle. Whenever I come out, it is still about the real me. Talking about work, I never take it for granted. From the beginning of my career, I knew what I wanted. I had a vision and kept staying focused. Even now, I remain undistracted. The more you are inspired and focused, the more you are relevant.

*Any regrets marrying early?

Not, not at all! It is one of the biggest blessings of my life because I look back and ask myself ‘if I hadn’t gotten married then, would I have married now?’ It is hard nowadays. It is difficult to find someone who would love you for who you really are and not the image they see on the screen or the image they have in their minds of who you are. I understand what my unmarried colleagues are going through; it is not easy. Having said that, I also think getting married to my friend, a wonderful, confident and powerful man has really helped me. He allowed me to have that stability and still go out there and fly.

*What happened to your music career?

I want to get back to the music industry so bad. I am coming back. It is not like I care what people are saying but I will be back soon.
Would your son produce your songs?
Well, I would like him to produce but we fight a lot. I used to complain a lot before but I have stopped because I know he takes after me. He knows what he wants and goes for it. I am always like ‘you’ve not even started yet and you are always acting so stubborn and pushing me around’. I don’t think we can ever get to work together because we are both headstrong. But on the other hand, I would love to work with him because he is a very fantastic producer. I just hope someday we can find a balance, agree and just let it happen. I want to do music in a way that I would always be at concerts. I don’t want to be like Tiwa Savage because that is her first career and I have movies as my first. I can’t compete with Tiwa. I like to express myself with music and I like to perform where people can come and watch me. So, I am planning on shaping my music career towards that end.

FG revokes Lagos trade fair complex concession

Lagos trade fair complex concessionThe National Council on Privatisation, which is chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has approved the immediate revocation of the concession of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex.

The trade fair complex was in 2008 given to Aulic Nigeria Limited as a concession, a move that had come under severe criticism by several trade groups.

The NCP also approved the commencement of the privatisation of the Afam Power plants 1-5 in a bid to injecting additional power into the national grid and improving electricity supply nationwide, as well as the immediate commencement of fresh privatisation of Yola Electricity Distribution Company.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, said this in a statement on Monday.

The council is the highest decision-making body on policies relating to the privatisation and commercialisation policies of the Federal Government.

“These approvals, the council noted, were aimed at giving traction to key infrastructural facilities in the country that are presently under concession, but have been adjudged to be performing sub-optimally,” the statement added.

The Osinbajo-led council also approved the pursuit of an out-of-court settlement regarding the privatisation of the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria.

The move aims to resolve the lingering dispute between the Federal Government, the BFIG and United Company, RUSAL, through the mediation of the secretariat with the active collaboration of the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.

The council advised that “the mediation efforts should take a holistic view of the entire sector and the overriding national interest to jumpstart industrial development through the steel sector in arriving at a resolution on the matter.”

Other key decisions taken by the council include the approval of the amendment to the work plan for the conclusion of the transaction involving the concession of Terminal ‘B’ of the Warri Old Port; and the restructuring and recapitalisation of the Bank of Agriculture.

“The restructuring of the BoA is in alignment with the government’s desire to make financing options readily available to farmers for an aggressive diversification of the Nigerian economy,” the NCP stated.

It further stated that it approved the immediate commencement of the reform and commercialisation of the River Basins Development Authorities to revitalise the irrigation and river basin potential for agricultural purposes.

Similarly, to harness the nation’s untapped tourism potential, the council approved the partial commercialisation of the national parks using three key parks as pilot projects.

Freelance Marketplace is not just assisting Telecom Engineers but also help Companies

Technology advancement has seen the rise and thriving of freelance telecom engineers. Many engineers are leaving full-time employment to engage in a freelance career that promises freedom, control of one’s profession and more money. Where a telecom engineer would build their careers working for a company for the rest of their employment life, nowadays, many can work for different businesses and even choose who and when to work.

Due to an influx of telecom engineers into the freelance marketplace, the competition is quite high. For a freelancer to survive in the telecom freelance marketplace, they have to be exceptionally good at what they do. They must be highly skilled and experienced to beat the competition. What does this mean to businesses in Telecom industry?

They No Longer have to Employ Telecom Engineers on a Full-time Basis

Some of the work companies in telecom industry engage in is seasonal. When they have to hire full-time employees to offer these services, it can be quite expensive. The availability of freelance engineers who can provide the services whenever called upon makes it cheap. You not only have to pay salaries for the full-time employees but also medical and other insurance covers not forgetting job allowances. A freelancer is only paid the amount you agree upon and in most cases after completing the job satisfactorily.

It means more savings for the business. The money can be diverted to other operations such as expanding the company. Also, because of a competitive market, freelancers only charge for what they are worth. This translates to businesses getting high-quality work from freelancers on favorable terms.

Telecom Businesses can Easily Get Skilled and Talented Workforce

For freelance engineers to stay competitive, they need to keep on advancing their skills. Since the industry has many talented and highly qualified freelancers, a company can go for the best the freelance market has to offer. They do not have to worry about maintaining the employee in the business because the work is only on contract basis. Anytime a business requires the services of a highly qualified freelancer it can get one easily especially when using an online portal such as fieldengineer.com.

How can a Business Find a Talented Engineer

The freelance marketplace is very diverse, at the same time, it is hard to pinpoint the right person for a particular job. Looking at freelancers’ resumes is not enough because some may be inflated. It is also time wasting having to go through resumes and following up to authenticate and clarify the details. How do you get the skills you need fast? How are you assured that you are hiring the right person? Most telecom engineering work is very sensitive and should only be carried out by highly skilled and professional engineers.

Fieldengineer.com offers an exclusive telecom freelance marketplace. The most important thing is, you can go through different resumes and check reviews from other telecom companies. You can easily access highly rated freelancers and agree on a contract fast. This means that you do not spend time going through job applications, setting interview dates and negotiating terms with those who qualify for the job. At the platform, you can post a job and be assured of having a skilled freelancer who meets your credentials in less than a day. You also get to see who your preferred freelancer has been working for. If they have been working for high-end clients, it shows that they have adequate skills. Also, it does not matter where you are located in the world because the online marketplace is for engineers worldwide.

For a telecom business that wants to cut down on its costs of operation but still have access to skilled workforce, hiring freelancers is the way to go. You also get the chance to access new talent in the industry which sometimes can bring a lot of innovative insight that leads to the unprecedented growth of your business.
